Last week we started construction on the new home for our IT department, located in the basement of Brotz Hall. This space will contain a new server room, help desk facilities, and our IT staff offices. We are replacing all of our old, outdated servers with new, under-warranty equipment. New and improved wireless access points around campus are also part of this plan.
I’ll post more on our IT infrastructure re-boot as we go, but it will also include improvements to the reliability and security of our network. Many people will notice the new wireless access points, but the reliability and security upgrades will only be noticed through the absence of problems. But that will be a great relief for many of us. We have been operating without adequate backup and redundancies for far too long, and with our increasing focus on online/BlendEd delivery, and online registration, etc., we cannot risk having extended periods of downtime.
We will also begin installing classroom technology upgrades in Old Main soon. More on that later, too.
